ThinkFree Office OnLine
Link: ThinkFree Corporation. Okay, I admit it. I hate Microsoft Word. I am a WordPerfect guy from Version 1. I like the reveal codes feature that makes my WordPerfect documents more customizable. I use the OpenOffice clone, which is free and open-source. You can download it at OpenOffice . However, what if you need to edit Word documents from someone who insists on using them, and you are at another location, or someone else's computer, or the computer you are at is Linux based, or a Mac, or something else? Enter a Java based website, ThinkFree, that allows you to access a web-based Word, Excel, and PowerPoint clone that works on any platform you might be at. Amazing. This is an example of the future of computing, when you can do anything from any computer attached to the Internet. The company provides a free account, with 30 MB of storage. Naturally, if you become a heavy user, you will want more storage, and that requires a subscription fee. The Company says that you can convert files to PDF, as well as create, edit and save them online. You can create Presentations with the PowerPoint clone, and create Excel readable spreadsheets. Perhaps the coolest feature, and the one that caused the FutureLawyer to set up an account, is that any of the documents, spreadsheets or presentations created can be posted directly to blogs. The supported blogs include Typepad, used for this site, as well as Blogger and others. Very nice. If you like the software, you can download and buy it for use locally on your own computer, for $49.95. Still a lot cheaper than Microsoft Office, and it gets the job done.
