Considering An IPhone? Read This First

Link: The Official Palm Blog: Palm OS today - thoughts from PC World. Centronaut I have been using Palm smart phones since the Pilot became the Treo. I love the simplicity and ease of use of the interface, and the usable keyboard. However, the pretty IPhone and its large screen and web browsing experience are hard to resist. Read this article, which fairly states the pros and cons of both; then, make up your own mind. For me and mine, the Centro is small, easy to carry and use, and does so many more things than the IPhone that it is still my choice. It is cheaper, and, at $99, is a steal. The much faster Internet access more than makes up for the IPhone's pretty screen. And, if you really want to text message and email, you really don't want the IPhone on screen keyboard. Palm's OS may be long in the tooth; but, it works and works well. Some of us work for a living, and the Palms help us do that efficiently and productively. Pick your poison, but pick carefully. All that is pretty is not gold.

I'm a Windows Mobile fan myself. While the iPhone is pretty (I may get one and unlock it for my wife, since we have T-Mobile), what happens when the screen goes out? Or the battery dies?

Um, I work for a living, and I use an iPhone. I have gotten quite fast with the screen keyboard but it is a trade off (large screen vs full time keyboard -- at least until Apple makes a model with a slide out keyboard if ever).

I have also played with the Centro keyboard and I have no idea how you can type anything on those pin head sized keys. Ok, LARGE pin head sized keys :) But I image people manage or they would not buy the Centro.

I mostly use it for taking notes (and emailing them back to my office), web browsing, emailing, camera (I use the iPhone to take picures of all my clients and it assoicate it with their contact record), listening to podcasts, checking maps-finding locations, keeping tabs of my calendar, etc.

If it doesn't work for you, go with the centro and save yourself several hundred dollars. But I would not give up my iPhone if you paid me.
