Home Office Lawyer: Lawyers and twitter

More lawyers are starting to use Twitter, as evidenced by this post from Grant Griffiths. Twitter is a kind of live blogging experiment, in which the user constantly posts his or her current musings or activities. While Grant seems to think he is getting new business from the practice, I tend to think that Twitter is dumbing down even further the immediacy of blogging. From print and broadcast journalism, to blogging, to twittering, seems to me to be a slippery slope downwards from thoughtful rumination about the issues of the day. This blog deals with gadgets, technology, and the law, and tries to be thoughtful and entertaining. However, do you REALLY want to get inside my head on a minute to minute basis? I didn't think so.

Rick- If twitter is used right it works in addition to a good blog. Those I follow don't give us what's inside their head on a minute to minute basis. What you can get from proper use is quick answers to questions. Quick answers to a twitter "poll". I post my new blog post to twitter using a tool called TwitterFeed. Twitter is no longer the hangout for teens and college students giving us those "what are you doing" twitter post. It is becoming a micro-blogging, social network tool. For those not willing to give it a good look, you will be left behind just like those not willing to blog. Don't discount it power.

I really think it depends on the source. I've recently began using twitter, and I enjoy it. However, I don't talk about my lunch or shoes.
