PalmAddicts: Don't sell your iPhone before you read this

Link: PalmAddicts: Don't sell your iPhone before you read this.Iphonerestore Honest, I didn't set out to be the defender of the faith for Palm. I also didn't set out to be the truth teller about Apple products. Sometimes, however, when the Apple intelligentsia hype machine gets going, it makes me crazy. The "I am better, cooler, handsomer, prettier, and classier than you" crowd has always aggravated me. I love Palm, and I love the Centro, as I loved the Treo before it. They are the Swiss Army Knife of mobile computing. Now, the hype machine is in full gear over the coming Apple IPhone 2.0. Apple didn't get it right the first time; what makes you think 2.0 will be any better? Will it have the speed of 3G? Will it be friendly to third-party developers? Will it have a removable battery? Now, we find out that the IPhone, version 1, doesn't actually delete your personal data when it is wiped and restored. Excuse me? You have to delete the items one by one? That sounds like a pleasant way to spend a WHOLE DAY.

Apple hype machine? Isn't that just redundant? Of course Apple has a massive hype machine. "Reality distortion field" was invented to describe the apple effect.

But, you are just trying to be oh so controversial.

I have a palm. It is a swiss army knife of applications. But since getting an iPhone, the Palm just sits unused. Did I give up some apps? Yup. But do I miss them? Not enough to carry around two devices any more.

Your "Apple didn't get it right the first time; what makes you think 2.0 will be any better?" comment is just silly. While the iPhone had some glaring omissions (lack of tasks, lack of cut and paste), it was a sea change in smart phones. You have to be one heck of a curmudgeon to look at an iPhone and says "Apple didn't get it right." You might as well throw in a "bah humbug." Apple didn't create the one perfect device "to rule them all," but still, "wow!"

Regarding 2.0, consider what it is and what it is not. 2.0 is not iPhone 2. I do not even expect the 3g iPhone to be iPhone 2.0. But since it has not yet been released, I am just speculating at this point. All I know that will (should) be released around June 2008 is the iPhone store finally allowing apps other that those sanctioned by El Steve-o. It's about time.

Will it be perfect? I doubt it. Apple does things Apple's way, not yours or mine, and it frustrates me as well. But you don't think 2.0 will be "better." Please. That's a pretty low bar. Being able to add apps is already "better." Will it fix the other glaring omissions? We'll see.

I don't think the iPhone is the necessarily the best choice for all businesses (or lawyers). If you see glaring omissions in the iPhone which affect your workflow, get a Palm or a Blackberry. But, your comments are too negative. Many of us lawyers are happy iPhone users.
