Google Chrome - Do We Really Need A New Browser?

Link: Google Chrome - Download a new browser.Googlechrome My first reaction to the new browser from Google, out in beta and called "Chrome", is, why do I need a new browser? Of course, I am using Google products for more and more of my daily computing. I use Google Reader for my RSS feeds, Google search for looking for everything, Google Apps for online collaboration, Google Maps for directions and navigation on my Palm Centro, and on and on. But, I really love Firefox, Firefox is a friend of mine, and, Chrome, you aren't Firefox. Google tends to make products better all the time, and Chrome is slick and fast. However, it nees some work. Of course, anything is better than Internet Explorer; so, if you haven't tried Firefox, you could do worse than Chrome.

I find it very telling that the German government announced opposition to the use of Google Chrome by its citizens; though, of course, it would not stop them from downloading and using it. In essence, Germany is uncomfortable with Google having too much information about any one individual. I agree, would offer the same advice regarding Internet Explorer (any version), and I just think that Firefox is a neutral party in this browser war. And, to answer your title's question, personally, no, we don't need another browser. Couldn't Google have just built a skin and a really fancy add-on to Firefox?

Google is starting to look a lot like "Skynet".
