Computing's New Classification - The NetBook

I have a new favorite traveling companion, the Asus 1000 HD. This little guy is the successor to the 4 Gigabyte version with the tiny 7 inch screen that I loved, but hardly ever used. It has a huge 120 Gig drive, and 1 Gig of RAM, along with a good enough 10 inch screen. It is about the size of two National Geographics on top of each other, and light as a feather. My only gripes are the less than full sized keyboard, and an annoying placement of the right hand Shift key. I keep missing it. However, it is only $379, which is chump change for a unit that comes with a full=fledged copy of the best OS, Windows XP. I could actually see myself using this computer as my sole unit; if I can figure out how to dock it to my peripherals easily. In the meantime, throwing it into a travel bag is an after-thought, and I can get anything done on the road. The battery goes for almost 4 hours, and you can get a newer version, linked to here, with an SSD drive. I still prefer the spinning platter, until SSD's prove themselves, but this is a personal preference. The EEE 1000 HD fits nicely in the Three Bears vision of mobile computing; the larger full function notebook (PaPa Bear), the ultra-light netbook (MaMa Bear),and the Palm Centro smart phone (or other PDA of your choice) (Baby Bear). Growl.
