Palm Pre: First Look and Details.
It figures. Palm's new OS and SmartPhone took the best features of the iPhone, and married them to the best features of the Palm Treo/Centro franchise, and are launching later this year on Sprint (ugh). The good news is that the phone is EvDO capable; so, sooner or later, it will be available on Verizon. Until then, we Verizon subscribers are going to have to carry a Treo/Centro AND an iPod Touch. The new Palms have several cool features that the iPhone lacks; a removable battery, an expansion slot for micro SD storage cards, an On/Off switch, and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. In addition, they can be used with one hand, one of the best things about the Treos and Centros. Oh, well. At least, by the time Verizon gets this phone, the kinks will be worked out.

From where did you determine that there is a MicroSD slot (which is of course hugely welcome)? From what I've read, there is a Micro-USB *port*, and a mode where the Pre functions as an external flash drive for another computer, but I haven't seen any documentation of a MicroSD storage option for the Pre itself.

Jonathan is right, there isn't an SD card slot. However, there is a Micro USB port, that could be used to connect to any number of USB or other devices. I suspect there will be a micro USB to SD card reader, if there isn't one already. We won't need to worry about it for a year, and who knows when Verizon Wireless will get the phone.

If you really need it right now, you could easily use a micro USB to USB adaper and plug in a USB SD card (you know, those that you can fold and that can be plugged into any SD or USB slot).
This would eliminate on of the biggest drawbacks of the Palm Pre. Fixed 8GB of memory is just not enough nowerdays.

I heard LG has really stepped up their game and are posing some (though not same) competition on the mobile front as well. Haven't seen the Palm or LG yet though to decide... heading there now!
