Windows 7: Windows 7 Upgrade Details for XP and Vista Users.
So far, I have installed Windows 7 beta twice, on two spare hard drives I had laying around. I have run it on both of my portable computers; the Dell D430 ultralight that is my main machine, and on my Asus Eee 1000H netbook that I carry around for web access while mobile. So far, I like it fine, and will likely upgrade from XP, if the price is right. While there is no direct upgrade to Windows 7 from XP, as pointed out in this article, I installed it in an XP machine, and it saved all of the existing files, which were accessible to the new OS. Some needed to be reinstalled, but most of the data was just as accessible as it had been in XP. The new OS is lean, mean and fast. Microsoft, if you want to wean us XP users away, make it cheap also.
