Testimonial: Rice Resurrects Even the Most Soaked of Gadgets - Cellphones - Lifehacker. Regular readers of this blog know that I have dropped smart phones in various water graves; twice, in the toilet (don't ask), and once in a swimming pool, and once in Tampa Bay. In each case, I did my best to dry them out, but, alas, they died a terrible death. Now, LifeHacker informs me that I could have dried them in a bowl of rice, which, because of its ability to soak up moisture, can save wet electronics if applied soon enough. Since my accidents, I have been a lot more careful with my smartphones, so I hope I never have to try this one out. However, if it happens to you, keep this one in your pocket just in case.

Rice might work for a minor splash, but if it's really SOAKED, you need to pop the battery, rinse both battery and phone under clean running water and then clean them with 90% isopropyl alcohol, then put in a container of SERIOUS desiccant . . . I wrapped phone and battery in a nylon sock and buried them for 48 hrs in a new container of crystal kitty litter. Two years later, the phone still works! Now if I could just talk DH into a new Google phone . . .

It's amazing what you can do with phones and they still survive. Thank you for the posting, if I had read it earlier it would have saved me the cost of 2 Iphones ;-)
