However, it is only since Caesar that we celebrate a New Year in January, Janus being the Roman God of new beginnings. Janus was able to look back and forward; most of us nowadays prefer to look forward only. If you are looking backward, you are wasting time that could be better spent in the present. So, we begin with a clean slate; this year I will try to keep my New Year's Resolutions for more than a day.
