Report: Apple clamping down on App Store content | Apple - CNET News. Okay, I admit it; I was lured into believing that Apple was becoming a kinder, gentler tyrant when I learned they were finally going to Verizon, and were allowing more access to the app store. Now, the Apple store has rejected an app that allows Sony Reader users to buy and to access their books on the iPhone or iPad. In fact, Apple wants any books purchased through competing vendors to go through the Apple store, which would presumably charge 30% for the service. Come on, do you need another reason to go to an open OS like Android? I regularly use Nook for Android, buy stuff with the Amazon Kindle app, and so forth. In the early days of computing, Apple was the rebel. MacWorld, which just completed, was the place the rebels went to compute outside the IBM influence. Apple doesn't even attend MacWorld anymore. When did Apple become the "man"?
