Google Adds 'People Widget' to Gmail | News & Opinion | PCMag.com. Adding contextual information about your Gmail contacts in a column that gives easy access to their latest emails, conversations, shared documents, Buzz posts, and Calendar events is not Google's attempt to compete with Facebook. But, for the same reason that Facebook mail hasn't impacted Gmail, Google's coming people widget won't keep people away from Facebook. I like that each service has its own strengths. And, anything that Google can do to make email more useful is fine by me. In fact, lawyers should be using Gmail more intelligently anyway. I need to do a better job of categorizing email contacts, so that I can differentiate between personal and business emails. The "People Widget" may make it easier to do that.
