Google Rallies Opposition to Murdoch-Backed Anti-Piracy Bill - Businessweek. I suppose that Google's protest is more effective than Wikipedia. Going dark doesn't seem to me to be the way to fight the alleged defects in SOPA, which attempts to regulate Internet speech. Setting aside the obvious problem with any Government attempting to regulate the Internet (Good luck with that), the question becomes whether SOPA would be good or bad for United States businesses. Some foreign pundits are saying that they are for it; because, it would open opportunities for them that are now taken by U.S. interests. As a lawyer, I understand and support the efforts of parties to encourage legislation that they think would benefit them; however, shutting down your site in protest sounds a little like taking your ball and going home because you don't like the calls made by the playground referee. So, Google is doing it the right way. If you oppose SOPA, speak out, don't take your ball and go home.
