Worst 60 minutes in my entire life. I feel your pain, sir. Yesterday, I decided to download and install the Windows 8 Developer Preview on one of She Who Must Be Obeyed's old computers. It isn't a slouch, with 4 gig of RAM, a 300 Gigabyte hard drive, a fast AMD chip, and plenty of zip. It had a buggy Windows Vista install, and she had long since moved on to Windows 7, at my insistence, since I was the one who was always tweaking Vista for her. Well, I did a clean install of Windows 8, and it is incomprehensible. Perhaps you need a touch screen to navigate in it; but, it is a nightmare going back and forth from the Metro UI tiles to a real Windows desktop. I, like this guy, took forever just to figure out how to turn the damn thing off. Microsoft, if this is the best you can do, I predict a firestorm of unhappy users. For now, I am reclaiming the 50 gigs of unallocated space on my Windows 7 machine, and not installing Windows 8 to test it further. Maybe the beta will be better, and maybe you need a touchscreen to develop a feel for Metro. For now, I counsel you to stay with she you brung to the dance.
