On the horrors of getting approval for an ice-cream parlour in San Francisco - Boing Boing.
Thanks to Execupundit for calling my attention to the nightmare of bureaucracy faced by a woman who wanted to open an Ice Cream Parlour in San Francisco. Believe me, I don't like taking shots at a municipality that is so concerned with healthy eating habits that it wants to regulate the content of Happy Meals at McDonald's. God forbid some little kid's life is ruined by a hamburger. But, $20,000 in permit fees, months and months of administrative hassles, an $11,000 charge just to turn on the water, and more, makes San Francisco an easy target. Just as the Happy Meals ordinance was allegedly aimed at improving the lives of San Franciscans, the nanny state regulations and bureaucracy faced by this entrepreneur fly in the face of the Mayor's and supervisors' promises that small business and job creation are their top priorities. Is it any surprise that California is bankrupt? Would the last sane member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors please bring the gavel? The horror. The horror.
