Every year, on Valentine's Day, we celebrate the holiday by spending money on jewelry, candy, flowers, and other stuff, in a weak attempt to show She Who Must Be Obeyed that we are the same romantic fool we were in the early days, when lots of Dopamine was running in our veins. We seldom consider the fact that the holiday is named after a saint who was beheaded in the year 278 for pledging his love to Christ instead of to the Government. Or, that it bears the name of a massacre, by machine gun, of a bunch of mobsters in Chicago in the thirties. I'm just saying.
