Could Apple be Shifting its Patent Strategy? - Digits - WSJ.
I am seeing more of these pieces in the press lately. Apple settled with HTC; therefore, they are softening their stance on patent enforcement? I seriously doubt it. Apple is intransigent in the extreme on these issues, and its arrogance is without peer. It is far more likely, IMHO, that Apple got rid of a small irritant, and will come away with millions of dollars in licensing fees, to boot. Some sources have speculated that Apple will be getting license fees of up to $8 per phone that HTC sells in the next ten years. It is also possible that the licenses Apple receives from HTC will be used to defend against Motorola Mobility patents in litigation with Motorola, which is now owned by Google. However, I am really tired of writing about these litigious companies and their tomfoolery. I would much rather write about cool gadgets and phones.
