%u2018Kafkaesque%u2019 Trial of Dead Hermitage Lawyer Starts in Moscow - Bloomberg.
My first question when I read this story was "What are they thinking"? The Russian Government is trying the former lawyer for Hermitage Capital Management for corruption and tax evasion, in absentia. However, he isn't just not here; he died in prison in 2009. "Kafkaesque" is a mild way of describing this secenario. Adding to the problem is that he was a lawyer working for a client, and he is the one who allegedly called attention of the authorities to the largest tax fraud in Russian history. The Trial is one of my favorite novels; but, I can't help thinking that even Kafka would be scratching his head over this one. At least, Josef K. was alive. It was the Court that was in absentia.
