Florida Supreme Court Extends Deadline For Electronic Filing
Supreme Court e-filing now begins April 1. The Supreme Court has extended the February 27, 2013 deadline after which all civil pleadings in Florida must be efiled at the EFiling Portal to April 1, 2013. I will refrain from any April Fool's jokes here, since this is a sea change in the way that lawyer's in Florida practice law. We have been copying each other with motions and pleadings since late last year, and it has become pretty routine. However, most attorneys are sending stuff via email AND ordinary mail, in an abundance of caution. EFiling has far more serious ramifications, since some stuff is deadline critical. The Probate Divisions have already been accepting electronically filed documents, and most attorneys in Florida have become familiar with the process. Now that court records are going to be in the cloud, and Florida has become one of the States that has established rules for cloud computing, things should start happening pretty fast.
