Microsoft Surface Pro Is a Hefty Tablet and a Lightweight Laptop - Walt Mossberg - Personal Technology - AllThingsD.
The new Windows 8 Surface Pro tries to be both a tablet and a notebook; a new form of hybrid that can replace a tablet and a notebook. Unfortunately, it doesn't do an adequate job of either, and is too expensive. At $899 for 64 Gigs of storage, it can run legacy Windows 7 software. But, I need at least 256 Gigs to do that. I won't spend upwards of Two Grand for the privilege. And, as a tablet, it is thick and heavy and bulky. It reminds me of my first tablet, the early Viewsonic GTablet, which felt like carrying a notebook computer around. First, Microsoft puts out a tablet that won't run anything but Microsoft Office apps. Now, they put out a hybrid that doesn't do the job of either tablet or notebook. I will pass. Let's see what ASUS and the other manufacturers can do.
