It is no surprise that some legislators and others are seeking to ban Google Glass even before it hits the market. Many attempts have been made to pass laws banning activities that cause distracted driving, a leading cause of vehicular accidents. However, human beings will be distracted by many things while driving, and enforcement of such bans is usually next to impossible. Of course, drivers should concentrate only on the road. However, does that mean we should also ban fancy in dash navigation systems because the driver could be distracted by the display? It could be argued that Google Glass is much safer, because the heads up display is in front of the user, and the user's eyes remain on the road. How many accidents have been caused by drivers who are looking at something else in the car? Current texting and cell phone statutes only ban the activities while not in hands free mode.
