Livescribe 3 Smartpen Review - Pros, Cons and Verdict. My new LiveScribe 3 Smartpen arrived yesterday afternoon, and I love it. Not as thick as the Echo, turns on and pairs instantly with my Samsung tablet, and works flawlessly. I have the tablet on the desk next to my notebook, and everything I write appears on the tablet in my handwriting. I don't even have to have the tablet on or in the room, and I can still write my notes. As soon as I turn the tablet back on, it pairs and syncs with the content stored on the pen's USB drive. Look ma, no wires? The pen is comfortable to write with, and the refills are easy to remove and reinsert. Unlike the Echo, the pen tip retracts into the pen when turned off, so no more ink marks on my clothes, and it has a clip for easy storing in a pocket. The other end has a rubber stylus tip that works on the tablet, and removes for charging via micro USB port. Of course, now I have a used Echo Smartpen in my bag that won't be getting much use. As a final bonus, the content of my notes are easy to transfer to digital print by swiping back and forth on the tablet and automatically sync with OneNote for all my devices, including my Windows computer.
