https://medium.com/@Legal.io/meet-lara-your-legal-assistant-a579dac68cf The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in law practice is in its infancy. I received an email from Pieter Gunst, of Legal.io, who announced LARA, an AI legal assistant that can answer thousands of legal questions, direct consumer users to a lawyer who practices in the area, and is the beginning of a software system that hopes to be the place consumers will go to get competent answers and to solve legal problems. The interesting part of this system is the emphasis on finding local answers and help by creating a huge database and leveraging AI to access the data efficiently. Some of the skills that LARA has now: Get a non-disclosure agreement, Find a lawyer referral service, Find a legal aid organization, Find a lawyer. Part lawyer referral service, part consumer information site, part document creation service, this could have a big impact as more consumers use the Internet for more than finding products and services. There are many issues, however, that will need to be addressed. Legal jurisdiction, licensing, state specific rules and regulations, and much more. However, it is clear that legal services delivery will be impacted as AI becomes more capable, and as humans rely more on computers and the Internet for more complicated tasks. The toughest task will be to keep human interaction a part of the equation. We must keep our humanity, and make certain that the machines remain our assistants, and not our masters.
