Tracking Cape Parrots through Hogsback's beautiful forests. The beautiful Cape Parrots of South Africa depend upon high forests of old-growth yellowwood trees, in the Amathole Mountains. There are only 1700 of these parrots left on the earth, and they are a study in the symbiosis between birds and forests. Forest despoliation and climate change have decimated the species, and are a case study in the effect of humans on the planet. While the human effect on climate change may be debatable; it is clear that deforestation is eliminating Cape Parrot habitat. Some humans are trying to reverse the damage. It is an open question whether they are fighting a losing battle.
