Treo like in features, with a removable battery, an SD slot for limitless memory, this might be the perfect smartphone. I still like the Palm interface, so I will likely be staying with the Centro; however, this business professionals choice will be finding its way into the hands of a lot of mobile road warriors.

Well, that is good; because I hope you haven't bought one of these by the time you read this. While I am posting on Friday morning, a few hours before the 6 P.M. launch, there are so many negatives about this thing that I am wondering what all the fuss is about. Waiting in line at Christmas for a Nintendo Wii was one thing; the Wii really is an innovative, life changing device, that is bringing families together for fun. The IPhone, however, is only fast when connected to WiFi, and is slow as heck on the cell phone network of AT&T. You have to sign up for two years of service, and STILL pay retail for the phone. You can't use the on screen keyboard with a stylus. Bare fingers only, please. And, then, you can't use your thumbs, unless you are 12. I could go on, but read the post by Christopher Guy. Not giving him a review phone was probably smart. He would have told the truth about this turkey.

Link: Will the iPhone be undone by its keyboard? - Engadget. When the IPhone comes out on June 29th, it is expected that many thousands will fly off the shelves. The touch screen interface looks so cool that I have wondered whether it may be worth a look. The lack of a 3G Internet connection, it uses a much slower service, and the lack of a keyboard concerned me. It appears that the on-screen keyboard is being panned by some pretty heavy hitters, including John Dvorak. The video I posted the other day shows the keyboard being used with alacrity by a demonstrator. Is this true? Before you buy one of these, spend some time playing with the keyboard, and see whether you can live with email and web browsing that is 4 times slower than Verizon and Sprint 3G.

Link: Treo 755p coming to Verizon? - Engadget Mobile. It looks like the FutureLawyer will be trading in his trust Treo 700p in July, as Verizon Wireless will be coming out with the 755p then. Thinner, and sans stubby antenna, the 755p has the Treo 680 form factor, and is a nod to the popular thin is in styling craze. I kind of like my fat phone with the stubby antenna (reminds me of me), but I will be trading in the 700p to get the updated OS, which allegedly fixes the Bluetooth and lag problems of the 700p. Palm still has the best OS for mobile use, although the IPhone will be claiming a lot of road warriors in a few weeks.

Verizon Wireless V740 ExpressCard

Link: Verizon Wireless V740 ExpressCard. For about a year, I have been using the Dell Mobile Broadband 5700 wireless EV-DO antenna built in to my Dell D620 notebook. It is speedy, and available just about everywhere, with speeds somewhere between dial up and DSL. Very usable, but so 2002. Because that is when the wireless broadband EV-DO technology started rolling out. Recently, Verizon has been updating its network to a speedier system, called EV-DO Rev. A. The speeds for Rev A were reported to be DSL or WiFi or better, so my curiousity was piqued. When I discovered that Rev A was available in Tampa, I jumped at the chance to upgrade my EV-DO modem. After all, I was already paying for the service. Unfortunately, there is no way to upgrade the internal antenna on the Dell, so I had to get a PC-Express Card, which is the new narrow PC card standard, and an adapter, to fit into my older PC Card slot. Now, I have speedier access via Rev A, but I have a geeky antenna spoiling the sleek lines of my computer. Oh, well, sacrifices must be made. The speed increase to 700 - 1400 kbps is amazing. And, the upload speeds are much faster, as well.

If you are a BlackBerry person, this is the one to get. it is a little wide for my taste, but it is better than the two tap key system of the other brain dead BlackBerrys.

This thing is huge, and, even though it may be a competent set, and comfortable to wear, would you want to? I admit I haven't tried one of these on. I also admit that it won't happen. I look geeky enough without calling attention to myself. This thing is twice as big, and twice as heavy as the Jabra, and does the same job. Jeez, get a Jabra already!
