Law.com - Dechert Gives 13 Associates Layoff Notices

Link: Law.com - Dechert Gives 13 Associates Layoff Notices. Monkeyseenoevil In case you were laboring under the misconception that biglaw practice was a security blanket, the recent layoffs at Dechert should give you pause. BigLaw doesn't hesitate to cut loose associates when the practice area is slumping, as is real estate law now. The firm, as a whole, is making record profits; small comfort to these 13 souls. The SoloLawyer recommends that you get into a recession free solo practice. You can change practice areas with the economy; however, you probably won't have to, since your overhead will be so low, you will be able to roll with the punches, in a recession.

I finally got sick of the layoffs and roller coaster of uncertainty.

A little capital to stake me and the same effort I would have put into a career change/job search and now I trade currency and do quite well working for myself.
