Be A Technologically Mobile Attorney?

In this post by Law.com solos and those who love them give their best advice as to how to take your business mobile and not be tied to your office or desktop PC ever, again.  And the best part...they pretty much come in under $5,000 to get the job done.  I'm sure others in the Mac World will have their say but the point remains the same, taking your office mobile has never been easier.  I'm still working on my Technoshock, but I'm getting there.

Link: BlackBerry Addiction Starts at the Top - Yahoo! News. Why is it that large companies feel the need to monitor and control their employees' behavior? Do large law firms act similarly? First, these companies require employees to use BlackBerrys, instead of more capable machines, such as the Treo, because they are limited in software they can use, and they phone home to the mother ship for message control. Then, after the employees get used to using them, the organizational studies begin, which start treating designer illnesses, like Blackberry addiction, and, to top it all off, they start publishing guidelines for the time and manner of use of the things. BlackBerry addiction is NOT the problem. Large corporations with nothing better to do but create control over their employees are. Today is a great day to be a Treo using solo lawyer, whose only boss is a female with a job jar in her hand.

Link: Treonauts | PdaNet for Treo 700p - Palm OS. I have posted before at FutureLawyer about PdaNet, and am reposting here since solo lawyers often find themselves away from the office. Solo lawyers can use the Treo for many tasks; but, in a pinch, PdaNet will allow the connection to the Internet, albeit slow, through the Treo itself. If you have new Treo, with EV-DO access, you can get broadband speed through a USB cable attached to the phone. PdaNet is a software program that is loaded on the Treo. A USB cable attaches to any USB port on the notebook computer. The software then permits Internet access through the Treo. Very handy in a pinch.
