Link: Unboxing the Sony Vaio UX50 - Engadget.
Can an ultra-light, ultra-portable computer be TOO small or TOO thin? Yes, when it is a notebook computer. Screen size and keyboard size must be relatively large to accomodate human eyes and fingers. Otherwise, the little thing becomes unusable. The UX50 is an example of size being everything. Check out the unboxing ritual at Micro PC Talk. The sound track is something out of jazz central. On the other hand, my new Dell X1 ultra-light
weighs only 2 1/2 pounds, fits nicely in my briefcase, and has a tiny little AC adapter; however, it also has a 12 inch screen, and a big enough keyboard. Any smaller, and I would need an eraser head to type. I am reminded of the three bears. The X1's size and weight are "just right". The X1 has been out a year, and it is unusual that I wait that long for new technology. However, I don't like to be an early adopter for technology that I use every day for lawyer work that is mission critical. I really like the promised 7 hour battery life of the new Dell ultralight, the D420, but the 3 hours I am getting on the X1 is plenty. If I am away from electrical power for more than 3 hours, I get a twitch anyway. More on this little computing marvel in coming days. Until then, you can check out the C-Net Review here.
