Link: IBM still profits from giant mainframes - Yahoo! News. I confess. I thought that room-sized, main frame IBM computers had been cast into oblivion by our new age of distributed computing. It looks like I was wrong. These monsters of the Internet way are still performing large data-crunching and data analysis tasks for mission critical data and programs. In the early days of word processing and computers, I remember using an IBM magnetic tape automatic typewriter that filled a room. It cost $10,000.00. Unlike the modern main frame, it really IS a dinosaur.
