Link: Netcraft Anti-Phishing Toolbar. I am having a wonderful time finding free software and tools that already do the things Vista is supposed to be providing (when Vista is finally released to the masses in January next year). The new version of Internet Explorer is already out, and has a built-in tool to identify phishing sites (sites that pretend to be legitimate, but exist only to mine your personal data and information). NetCraft has a free tool that does the same thing, and plug-ins are available for FireFox, etc. Some of these phishing sites are pretty good replicas, and this plug-in will compare them to a list of known fraudulent sites, as well as the true location of the site. If the site says that it is PayPal, but is based in Belarus, that is a sure sign, right?
That is an interesting tool bar. If you really want solid phishing protection, install Firefox 2 (www.getfirefox.com). It has built-in phishing protection, which is more effective than IE 7's (http://www.mozilla.org/security/phishing-test.html).
Take care,
Andrew
