The Florida Bar has, for a year, provided free legal research for
Florida case law and materials from FastCase. I admit that I prefer
Versuslaw, but free is free, and I have been using Fastcase for legal
research for six months now. I really like the service, and it prints
cases in the same two column format found in law books. Today, I had
occasion to search all 50 states, and subscribed to the Nationwide case
law database. Normally, this service costs $995 a year from FastCase,
but the Florida Bar deal allowed me to subscribe for $195 for a full
year. What a bargain for the solo practitioner. Lobby your Bar for
similar benefits. That is what dues are for. Solo law has access to the
same resources long available only to wealthy large law firms. The
Internet is the great equalizer. Use it.
