Link: New Jersey lawmakers may ban texting while driving - Yahoo! News.
First, we had war driving; tooling around in our vehicles looking for free WiFi. How distracting! This was a two person job, no matter how you look at it. Now, New Jersey is contemplating legislation aimed at banning text-driving, using PDAs to send text messages while driving. It will become illegal to send email or text messages while driving in a motor vehicle. No word yet on how the police can tell whether the driver is texting. Who knows what he is doing with his hands down there? Maybe some Yoga maneuver? I tend to think that legislating what people do while driving a car is a fool's errand. First texting, then making out, then, who knows what human activity will be banned next? Putting on makeup while driving? Talking on cell phones? Turning around to see what the kids are destroying? Playing with the radio? I say let the fools do whatever they want while driving. Just make them drive somewhere else. I know, I know, my "modest proposal" has a flaw. In a car, a fool can do damage to innocent bystanders. I just have a problem with laws that are clearly unenforceable, no matter how beneficial they can be. if you must engage in some dangerous activity, just stop your car. Pull over. Sit and text all you want. Just be somewhere else when the FutureLawyer drives by.
