The Russians are Coming

Link: Skylink goes both ways with Ubiquam U-520 - Engadget Mobile. Skylink, the Russian cell phone operator, has a new Korean import phone that exemplifies the new Russia: hip, technically literate, and consumer oriented. Russian design has never been sleek, but borrowing the Korean model has created a great phone that some wish we had over here. It is a dual CDMA/GSM phone, a feat that allows connection to EV-DO for browsing and email, and the GSM usefulness anywhere on the planet. Compared to some other phones, it isn't really that beautiful; but function beats form anytime.

Motorola H700 Earset Bargain

Link: Great Daily Deals at Yugster.com. When my new LG earset proved too uncomfortable to wear (the in ear part is annoying), I bought one of the cool new Motorola earsets. No piece to plug in the ear, great noise reduction technology, and a cool flip out mike that serves double duty as an on-off switch. I now use this for Skype calls during the day on the computer. You really do forget you have it on. However, I paid $99 for mine, and this is a realy bargain at $34.99, with $2 shipping. It may be gone by the time you read this, so check it out.

Apollo - Adobe Labs

Link: Apollo - Adobe Labs. What if all your applications were operating system independent, browser independent, and used the web for information. Think Web 2.0 without browsers. Well, Adobe has released the Alpha version of its Apollo Runtime software, which allows the creation of Web 2.0 applications that don't require a browser, and don't care what kind of operating system you use. Alpha means this is not even beta ready, but this is very cool stuff. In the future, you will likely be interacting with the Web without a browser. I have already been playing with an application called LookUp that checks in with many Web dictionaries, and which sits on the desktop, and runs without my browser.

The JottBlog Experiment

Link: The JottBlog Experiment. Get ready to learn a new term. Remember my posting about the new Jott service? Just speak to your phone, at your assigned Jott phone number, and the text is transcribed and posted on the web. Well, the newest version of this is jott-blogging. That is, instead of going to the Jott website, these geniuses have configured Jott to send the message, after transcription, as a blog post. Imagine driving around and posting to your blog by voice, over your cell phone? I predict this will be hot, once the kinks get worked out. Congrats to John Pollard and the Jott crew for being open to new ideas and uses for their brain-child.

This one is only 3 minutes long, and is a great bite-sized way to get the news on a topic. Now, Carolyn's specialty, Offshore Renewable Energy is a real niche. However, what a great way to communicate with clients and prospective clients.
