Link: Law.com - Mayer Brown 'De-Equitizes' 45 Partners. See. I told you so. You may be able to start at a big law firm for $160,000.00 a year; but you are never safe. You slave away for years, make partner, and, then, some snot tells you that you are no longer productive, and you get de-equitized. Is that a word? Sounds like what they do to mules. Well, anyway, you are never safe. At least, as a solo, my meager wages are safe from the partner police, and nobody will ever "de-equitize" me. Except my wife, of course.
Funny post, Rick! I blogged about the same thing here:
http://erikmazzone.wordpress.com/2007/03/02/dont-get-too-comfortable/
About half of the Mayer Brown lawyers were fired outright, while the other half were invited to remain with the firm in a non-partner capacity.
Not sure which is worse. Although, come to think of it, never having to sit through another partner meeting doesn't sound entirely bad.
I choose the get paid without going to meetings plan.
