However, Kevin O'Keefe has provided a really useful link to a short video that explains RSS (Really Simple Syndication) for all of you lawyers out there who don't really understand it, and are afraid to sound stupid by asking someone. Simply put, RSS is just a way to get all of the Internet news and content you want (including FutureLawyer and SoloLawyer) sent to you, rather than having to go out on the Net and find it for yourself. Sound easy? It is. Watch the video, and then go do it.

While I wait for a review unit from Vulcan, I am getting anxious to try out the FlipStart, and have been devouring all the opinion that is already out there. I really WANT to replace my notebook and Treo with a handheld unit that does everything the notebook does, but is easy to carry. However, there is a lot of opinion out there like this article that seems to think the sweet spot doesn't exist. At least, not until the McCaslin model ultralights hit late this year. Apparently, battery life isn't good in the current crop, and the keyboards require too much compromise. I reserve judgment until I have one in my hands; but, for the time being, you should check out this article. If you have a medium to large law firm, what are you going to spend on new Vista operating systems, and licenses for Microsoft Office? Solo lawyers and small firm lawyers cannot justify spending $300 to $400 per license for Office, when Google Apps is free. And, if you you want 10 gigabytes of email storage, and guaranteed availability, and no network problems, $50 a year will buy you as many users as you want. Sounds like a no brainer to me. But, I'm not the law firm administrator here. Wait, yes I am, but I only have one lawyer to please, and he is quite pleased NOT to give Microsoft any more of my hard earned cash.

RIM is creating an application to make Treos and other smart phones look and act like Blackberrys? Uh, I don't think so. I suppose this makes sense for large corporations that want to control employees' email and to require access to the BlackBerry servers. Is RIM also going to guarantee no more day long email outages? If I wanted a BlackBerry, I would buy one. I don't, and I suspect that most Treo users don't either.

Link: The Official Palm Blog. Today, I am taking my son to the Devil Rays - Cleveland baseball game. That is a not so unusual way for us to spend Sunday afternoon, except that the Tampa Bay Lightning are simultaneously fighting for their playoff lives against the New Jersey Devils. She Who Must Be Obeyed is taking our daughter to that game, since I got to go to the last one. (I could probably hire an associate for what we spend on tickets, but that wouldn't be any fun). Anyway, this post at the Palm blog shows why I will be able to check in at the Lightning game while watching the Devil Rays new power lineup destroy the Indians. It's a brave new world.
