Link: Technology News: Software: Ubuntu's Mark Shuttleworth: Prepare for the Shared Software Tidal Wave.
Tidal waves; that's what interests Mark Shuttleworth, who has sunk Ten Million Dollars into Ubuntu (U-boon-too), the current most successful Linux OS distro. It is the one the FutureLawyer is experimenting with, to see if a law office can run without Microsoft products. So far, it has been an enlightening experience. Will the "tidal wave" of open operating systems and software inundate Microsoft? Only time will tell, but I wouldn't bet against a man to who started from nothing, and spent 20 Million Dollars to ride in space with the Russians. So far, the only lawyerly thing I haven't been able to do satisfactorily in Linux is run document assembly software that I have come to rely on for document production in my one man office. That is more a function of the lack of adoption of Linux by lawyers than anything else.
How are you defining "most successful"? Some might argue that Redhat or Suse are more successful in terms of market share, capitalization, etc.
