Box.Net is a great online service that allows the storage and sharing of files and photos online in a secure server. You can try it free with up to 1 Gigabyte of storage. The business user can have much more storage for around $20 a month. Security dictates that large files not be sent as attachments. Most users aren't opening attachments to email anyway, and some email services limit the size. Also, certain sets of documents demand that access be only permitted to small groups. You can set up a box for clients, attorneys, or anyone involved in a particular case. Now, however, Box.Net has formed partnerships with many other online services. The latest is my favorite fax solution, Efax. Just click on a file in a box, and fax it to any fax machine in the world. Very cool. Very Web. Very now.
Many of my SMB clients are starting to use offsite storage for backups, and I encourage it. Relying on tape or other backups has proven iffy at best. I also recommend "safe" storage onsite - I am starting to place Drobo at my customer sites, it's easy, safe and not intimidating - yet offers the best storage protection and features for the price.

I have many small business clients that are beginning to use offsite storage for backup. None are using it for file sharing that I know of, but it's a logical next step. I still place secure onsite backup - Drobo is my current preference for its solid data protection combined with brain dead simple ease of use.
