Travel light. That is the best advice I ever got about traveling; it is a lesson best learned from experience. It is a lesson that She Who Must Be Obeyed refuses to learn; after all, she has me to carry whatever she can't. Why am I able to do this? Because I travel light, of course. I just got back from my first trip with the new Dell D430, and it is a dream. I normally don't spring for new technology, but I was confident that the small upgrade from the D420 meant that Dell had the form factor ironed out. I was right. This little guy is about half the size of the normal notebook (see illustration), and can be packed as an afterthought. However, it has a screaming Core Duo processor, 2 Gigs of memory, and a passable hard drive. The screen is small but bright, and the keyboard is typical Dell solid. As Goldilocks said, it is "just right".
I'm inspired - gonna check eBay for one!
