So, scientists hope that the bugs will make super powerful, next generation computers that increase data crunching by leaps and bounds. Let's hope that these bugs don't infest users houses.

If you spend any time on airplanes, you can identify with someone who has been forced to listen to a blabbermouth for a 2 or 3 hours flight. The only way I have been able to avoid this is to arrange to get an aisle seat with a vacant center seat, or to put headphones in my ears and pretend to be listening to music. I agree that it would be nice to have data connectivity on airplanes. However, please let passengers and users browse and email in blissful silence.

Link: Computerworld - Vista laid low by new malware figures. Okay. Vista was "designed" to be annoying, with its User Account Control (UAC) security system. It is the most secure OS, according to Microsoft. Australian company, PC Tools, begs to disagree. According to PC Tools, Vista is as likely to be hit by malware products as Windows 2000. Windows 7 better be better; or, there will be a lot more Linux users in the world.

This little $15 program allows Palm users to overclock the CPUs in their little systems. In the case of my Treo Centro, overclocking the 312 Mhz processor to 412 Mhz, with a corresponding increase in the bus speed from 1.5 to 2.0, caused a 100% speed increase in Slingplayer, BackupMan, and Blazer's web browser. The web pages jump on to the screen now, and the browsing experience is 8 times faster than the IPhone. Backing up the entire system takes 30 seconds. Video is smooth, even coming from my home cable box over the net. Apple fans, don't try this at home.

Google Introduces OnLine Medical Records Site

Link: Wired News - AP News. And, now, for something REALLY scary. There are so many legal issues springing from this new service, I hardly know where to start. Number one, who in their right mind would put their confidential medical history and information online? Once you take that step, what if hackers get hold of it? Is it discoverable in litigation if you voluntarily put it out there, or do you have an expectation of privacy just because Google promises to secure it? Does Google really want to be involved in the legal disputes over the information? What happens when you die? I can see putting my medical history on a chip in my arm or somewhere else on my body. Then, if I am hospitalized, my Doctors can just download it. Or, carry a Medic Alert bracelet or card with just enough information to handle emergencies for a known medical condition. But, out on the Internet? In a MySpace world? I don't think so.

I have temporarily lost my add ons; but, they will return as the browser is updated. In the meantime, version 3 is fast, fast, fast. The look is improved, and did I say it is FAST? You can try it alongside your existing browser if you like. Just install to a separate directory.

Puppy Linux 4.00 on an OLPC? Why Not?

Link: Puppy Linux 4.00 (Dingo) | Puppy Linux. First, let me say I am a fan of the OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) mission. I bought one last fall, and, hopefully, the one I donated made it to a needy child in Africa. However, my daughter found the OS and interface clunky and hard to use, so the unit has sat idle. If this is what we are donating to children across the world, they must be finding them hard to use. Now, the news is out that OLPC is dumping the OS in favor of XP. Since the unit has only 1 Gigabyte of memory, that will require a lot of downsizing. If Microsoft is donating the OS that is fine; however, why not install a version of Linux, like PuppyLinux, that resides in less than 100 Megabytes, and has all the applications a user might need?
