Google Maps My Location Service Comes To Palm

Link: Mobile. One of the few applications I have missed, with my Palm OS based Centros, has been the cool My Location feature of Google Maps for Mobile. Google Maps is a killer app for smartphones, which permits access of Internet enabled phones to the vast Google maps database. Now, the Verizon and AT&T Centros can use the My Location service to locate the user anywhere. Sprint will provide a software update later in the summer. It is a very satisfying feeling to click a menu option, and have a map of the user's current location pop up on the tiny screen. Leave the GPS in the car; now you never have to say you're lost again.

In case you didn't think that electronic data discovery issues were complicated enough, they just got more complicated. By now, you should be familiar with the recent ruling by the Ninth Circuit out in California, which held that employees of companies who used text and email services hosted by third party providers had a reasonable expectation of privacy in their communications, and that such messages were protected from access by the employer. Previously, most pundits and researchers believed that, if the employer paid for the computers and services, they owned the material. Not so, says the Ninth Circuit. Okay, I have panned Twitter in several posts, because I disagree that it is a great social network and I think it wastes a lot of time chronicling the minutiae of everyone's life. Do you really want to know what I am doing 24-7? I didn't think so. However, some of you insist on twittering away (is there a reason it is called twitter? Are you a twit if you use it? I'm just asking). Anyway, this free Palm OS program will allow you to twitter away from your smart phone. You can be a twit all day long, wherever you are. In case you were wondering, I am spending the day at home, watching scifi, and trying to forget that I have to be a lawyer on Monday.

We seem to spend an inordinate time, when visiting Disney World, at the LEGO store in Downtown Disney, where there is a huge outdoor LEGO exhibit and play area. I grew up with wooden Lincoln logs (yeah, I'm OLD), but I understand the fascination with the cool plastic, colored, building blocks. Now, you can do it online with a free software download. I just downloaded a copy for my son, and he actually turned off World of Warcraft to play with it. Get in touch with your inner kid. Download a copy for yourself. Talk To The Hand . I have been having fun with the cobalt blue Verizon version of the Palm Centro, and it is the best smart phone I have ever owned. I still have the Sprint version; but, I will be using it as a backup since Sprint is still charging an arm and a leg for call forwarding. Palm has been taking hits for a while now, because pundits and critics think the OS is old and not innovative enough. I think it is just right; fast, responsive and easy to use. Verizon will give a big boost to Centro sales, and I predict the Centro will explode in the near future.

Dell to charge $50 for XP downgrade on new Vostro models - Downgrades Are The New Upgrades

Link: Dell to charge $50 for XP downgrade on new Vostro models - Gadgetell. Talk about euphemisms. Dell is calling the new option to install XP on new Vostro computers a "downgrade". Of course, the rest of the world knows that it is actually an "upgrade"; but, Dell has to keep Microsoft happy. After June 30, you will have to PAY Dell an extra $50 to get XP installed on new Vostros. They are the only models that can be configured without Vista. Computer buyers will be better served by installing XP themselves. Of course, retailers are charging the same thing for the software as new copies of Vista, in order to stem the rising tide of Vista naysayers. Oh, well.
