Link: Google's Andy Rubin talks Android, demos apps - Engadget. Your next cell phone will be running the Android operating system. Why? Because Google made it, it is hardware independent, and it is free. Android is the Linux of mobile operating systems, but is pretty, and easy to use. Don't like the OS that came with your phone? If you have a 200 mhz processor or better, you can install and run Google's Android. It won't be out til the end of the year, but I predict it will take the cell phone world by storm. Watch out, Apple and Palm, the storm is coming, and it will blow down your trees.

Link: Why You Should Download Firefox 3 Right Now - Webmonkey. Today is the day. At 10 A.M. PDT (That's 1 P.M. for the East Coast), one of the biggest download fests in Internet history will begin. The new location bar referred to in the article will change your browsing experience. The increased speed will bring a smile to your face. And, the fact that you aren't giving succor and comfort to Microsoft will make you laugh. The location bar pops up possible choices as you type. I have found that I don't need to type whole URLs much anymore when going to new places, or when trying to remember the name of a site. I use it now instead of Google in many cases. There is also a new Most Visited drop down menu option on the Link bar, which lists links to the sites you have most recently visited often,  and the trusty tabbed browsing we all have learned to love. On the speed front, I think 3 is faster than Opera, previously the speed king of browsers. Download it, try it, and you will never go back.

XP deathwatch, T minus 2 weeks - Is There A Lawyer In The House?

Link: FAQ: XP deathwatch, T minus 2 weeks. Well, June 30 is fast approaching, and it looks like it will take a Presidential pardon to prevent XP's execution. Where are the capital punishment lawyers when you need them? Of course, you will still be able to buy a copy of XP, if you pony up $400 to $800 for a UMPC with XP installed. And, you can always install your current copies on new machines when you buy them. I have a bunch of licensed copies of XP around, from the computers I have purchased for myself, secretary and family over the past few years. I will recycle them until I can't anymore. By that time, either Windows 2007 will be out and a hit, or if a Vista like dud, I will switch to Ubuntu Linux. If Microsoft thinks that forbidding OEMs from selling XP on new machines will kill XP, they are sadly mistaken. I predict a robust secondary market for old copies of XP. They will work for a few years anyway. That is a hundred years in computer time.

First, it costs One Hundred Thousand Dollars. You read that right. This is the Father's Day gift for fathers like Bill Gates or ARod. But, they can't take away the dream, can they? Enjoy your day. And remember, it's about family and love and NOT a freaking 108 inch big screen!

Verizon Centro In My Hands! - Treonauts

Link: Verizon Centro In My Hands! - Treonauts. Here is a first view of the unboxing of a new Verizon cobalt blue Cento. I am getting one on Monday, and will report back. IPhone 2 has a bigger screen, but still doesn't have a removable battery, doesn't have a QWERTY keyboard, and can't be used to tether a notebook computer to the Internet. The Centro does, and is smaller to boot. Verizon will push Palm's hit phone past two million users. As of next week, we will have three in the family. I really like being able to beam software and data back and forth between them; and, Sprint service woes aside, at least I can choose from thousands of third party applications without calling Steve Jobs and asking nicely.

Link: Associate Advice: Start Early on Client Development, Stay Late at the Office | ABA Journal - Law News Now. This article gives advice to the new associate in the megafirm. However, it fails to notice that the advice is even more important to the solo practitioner. While it may not be a life affirming decision to work 24/7, and to spend hours on building a client base; both decisions will impact favorably on the growth of a law practice by a solo. All the other skills are "people skills" that every new lawyer must have to succeed. Of course, the article neglects to mention the other half of a happy life. Family, friends, happy pursuits, kids, dogs, cats, and vacations. As a matter of fact, I am on one now,and the beach is calling my name.

Note: The photo was taken yesterday by a Centro cameraphone, and the kids are mine. I liked the fact that the kite was not visible in the photo. Kites, and life, should always be a little out of reach.

Link: Palm Centro heads to Verizon, in stores tomorrow for $99 - Engadget. My Verizon rep called yesterday, and ordered me one of the new Verizon Centros. Since I already had an account assigned to my old Treo 700p, it was a simple matter. I am travelling until next week, and it should be there when I get back. I am anxious to get back to Verizon, as Sprint has been less than overwhelming with service issues,  and is still charging outrageous fees for call forwarding, even with the so-called "simply everything" plan. Now that Verizon has acquired AllTel, I hope sheer size doesn't negatively impact service; however, smart phone subscriptions may be one place where size does matter.

Link: Futurelawyer - Podcasts - Powered by Odiogo. I love blogging. I love practicing law. I have never found the time to set up a Podcast, either voice only or video. I am not ashamed of my voice or my looks; it just always seemed like a pain. Who has time to listen to long-winded podcasts anyway? Then, Dan Covington, at Kansas Business Lawyer, introduced me to a free service, Odiogo, that automatically turns any blog into a podcast! Amazing. The voice sounds a little like a robotic sounding alien in a bad sci fi movie; but, the rendition is really accurate. The cool thing about this is that vision impaired persons now have an easy way to read blogs, and IPod users can automatically load their favorite blogs via ITunes.
