If you have ever given a computer to a family member, or associate, or sold a computer to a perfect stranger, you certainly understand the risk of your files winding up in the hands of another. Many of the files you, as a lawyer, have on your computer, are protected by the attorney client privilege, and you owe the client a duty to not disclose them. Hopefully, you are aware by now that merely deleting files does not remove them from hard disk media. This freeware program will assist in the task of erasing the data on a drive with no chance of recovery. Use it.

Kill Disk is good too. I use it a lot. Also note that if you have a Windows machine with an issue that won't go away after the HD had been reformatted, you probably have a hidden partition with a virus or some other malware there. These types of programs are all I have found to get rid of those nasty buggers.
