Link: IOGEAR - GPEN200NW6 - Mobile Digital Scribe. I have played around with mobile digital input devices before. They never worked very well, and I always abandoned the attempt. So, when I was offered a new IOGear Mobile Digital Scribe for review, I was not impressed. However, after installing and using the thing, I have to say that this one works, and may just bridge the gap between techies and non-techies. Its versatility and small size are the most impressive aspect. First, the sensing device is tiny and can clip or sit on top of a pad of ordinary paper. It is rechargeable, and plugs into any USB port for computer connection and recharging. When plugged in, it can be used as a pen mouse, and the digital pen is no larger than an ordinary ball-point pen. This is where it gets interesting; the pen actually has ball point refills, AND a mouse stylus, that can be changed out. As you write, the sensor records an actual picture of your handwriting or drawing. If you like, the included software will convert your scribbling to text; however, given my handwriting, the result was gibberish. With practice, I am sure it could do a better job; however, I would have to change my handwriting style. All in all, the Mobile Digital Scribe deserves a look, if you want a pen based mouse, or need to record your scribbling in digital form. You don't even need to take your computer with you, and the Scribe will record your writing, and store it for later import into a computer. $129.95, from IOGear.
