I dock my Dell D430 ultralight to it, as well as an external keyboard, several external hard drives, an external DVD ROM drive, an external speaker system, and, well, you get the drift. I have a similar setup at home; so my Dell serves as my principal computer. I carry it everywhere. However, the problem arose several years ago that I had my network server hooked up to a separate keyboard and monitor, that was seldom used, but took up space in the office. What to do? I tried everything, from complicated cable KVM switches to software. Finally, I hit upon the solution. I had been using GoToMyPc for some time to access the office server remotely. Why not use it while in the office? I am now installing Windows updates to my server, while I work on my ordinary work. Remote can be as close as your right hand, and as far away as the Internet reaches.

The court system is designed for the remedy of human grievances, and the Almighty is certainly not the author of our own faults. The nuns taught me that God gave us free will; it seems arrogant for a puny human to bring legal action against God; but, what about Satan? In fact, if one wishes to sue higher beings, why not serve process on their surrogates? Suing the earthly representatives would seem to have a better chance of success. However, I don't think I want to explain to God's representatives on my day of reckoning that , hey, I was just kidding when I served the summons. I suppose I could say that the Devil made me do it.

Link: Eight Handy Tools in Microsoft Word You Probably Don't Know About - Solutions by PC Magazine. Okay, I like and use WordPerfect every day. However, I sometimes am forced to send documents in Word format to other lawyers and clients who don't share my iconoclastic loyalty to the first great word processor. So, in deference to you Word users, here is Neil Rubenking's take on 8 underused Word tools; some of which are great for lawyers. The Florida Bar, and others, have opined that it is unethical to mine documents for metadata (hidden information about a document such as revision histories, etc.) that can be embarrassing or damaging in legal documents. However, it is still incumbent upon careful lawyers to make sure you don't send out documents that carry such information (better safe than sorry). My favorite tool, highlighted here, is the Document Inspector, that will reveal the stuff you might want to keep confidendtial. The compare tool is very useful to find out whether a document that comes back to you has changes in it. Be careful out there. Friends don't let friends use Word. But, if they insist, help them.

You can get a case with a cite, or get the cites for $2.95 a case. The searches are free, on a case by case basis. Since you have to enter a zip code and CAPTCHA code for each search, this is no substitute for the paid service; however, for a measly $13.95 a month, you can do unlimited research online. Versuslaw was the first, and still is the best.
