Amazon gets ready for second-generation Kindle - USATODAY.com.
When the first Ereaders came out, I was excited. They sported large screens, space for many electronic books, the ability to download from the Net, and real page turning. However, I was turned off by the high price ($399 and up) for what was essentially a one trick pony. Then, I discovered the Second Generation iPod Touch. What a revelation. The screen is small enough for a pocket, but large enough to read comfortably. Thousands of books are available for free downloading, and it connects to the Internet for RSS feeds reading. Free application Stanza provides page by page turning, and other cool features. So, I am underwhelmed by the news that the new Kindle will be smaller and cheaper. If I want to read electronic books now, I pull out the Touch.
When textbooks and law texts become available for Kindle, the device will become much more attractive.
