webOS 1.2 now available, brings support for app purchases.
As I read about the update to the Palm Pre's Web OS this morning, several things crossed my mind. First, how cool is it that, unlike the iPhone OS, the Pre automatically downloads the update in the background, while you are doing other things; and, when it is finished, lets you know it is ready for install. Second, I thought about why I like to wait a while before buying new technology; who knows how many bugs are fixed in the OS, before I buy it. Okay, I have been waiting until Verizon Wireless gets it; but, you get my drift. Third, I was remembering the days when we bought software in a store, on floppy disks, or, later, CDs, or, later, DVDs. The next time some green fanatic castigates me for some carbon wasting habit (I have a few), I will point out that I am saving gasoline, carbon emissions, shoe leather, plastic used for CDs and DVDs, and God knows how many quarts of oil, by updating software online. Just call me the "Green FutureLawyer".
