Despite Taunts from Rivals, Microsoft Security Essentials is Solid - Business Center - PC World. Okay, okay, Microsoft doesn't do anything that isn't good for Microsoft; however, it is in Microsoft's interest that users of its OS not have viruses and spyware gumming up the works. It is cheaper to provide a competent, small footprint, reliable security system, that is free. Now out of beta, I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials for a while on our home machines, and it is very nice. Small, no load on the system resources, and pretty capable, it is free to download, and does everything automatically without user intervention. If I were selling antivirus and antispyware software for $60 a year, I wouldn't like it either. Sometimes, in the computer store, I want to shake the newbies buying security software by the shoulders, and tell them they can get the job done free. But, I don't. They will have to learn on their own. You, however, don't have to.
