A new browser for Android, Dolphin, is fast, intuitive, and easy to use. And, since Android permits third party innovation, it includes multi-touch as a function. Droid and Android are superior to Apple's iPhone in many ways; but, Don Reisinger of EWeek says it best. I would have put open source first; but, he hits all the high notes. I would amplify usability issues like a removable battery ( I carry a spare, which will get me through a weekend without electricity), tethering (you can browse the web on your notebook, using the Droid's Internet connection, free turn by turn GPS navigation, voice search and navigation that works, I could go on and on. If you have drunk so much Apple Kool Aid that your brain has turned to mush, then you may think iPhone is superior to Droid. However, any even-handed look at the two leaders in the category would have to give a big edge to Droid.

Mozilla Firefox coming to Android %u2013 Android and Me. As I suspected, the freedom and openness of the Android platform is resulting is a flurry of apps for the Droid and other Android phones. I got the new Directv NFL mobile superfan app just in time for the games this past Sunday, and watched them on the Droid while I watched the local game in person. Very cool. Now, Firefox announces that it is bringing its award winning browser to Android in December. I am rapidly running out of things I use the iPod Touch for; I am down to SlingMobile as the last hold out. The right to choose from many browsers (unlike iPhone and iPod Touch), especially Firefox is just one more reason why Android is going to be a superior mobile platform. Freedom for Geeks.

Extra Power For IPhone And Ipod Touch

XPAL Power | Products : AP1000. As I have discussed in recent posts, most of my mobile computing tasks have been transferred to the outstanding Droid phone. It now is my principal calendar, email, instant messaging, SMS messaging, music, twitter, ereading, and online mobile search device. I always get a signal with Verizon Wireless, and have yet to have a dropped call. The battery is long lasting, lasting almost twice as long as my iPod Touch battery. And, I have a spare battery that slips in my pocket that doubles that time. I haven't had to use it yet. I still use the iPod Touch, as the Slingmobile app allows me to connect to my home cable box, and the games are better because of the larger internal iPod memory. However, I seldom play games, and rarely need the Sling app. When I do use it, it is really annoying to run out of battery after less than an hour of streaming video. So, you need to supplement the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch internal battery with an external one. This one is nice, but adds weight and heft to the iPod Touch. Still, it is nice to get enough juice out of the battery to watch all of the pregame shows before Sunday football, at the game.

One of the things I hate about Verizon (Big Red) (No, I am not a complete fanboy), is that they are always nickel and diming you for services that should be free. One  of them is the $1.75 information charge for 411 calls. She Who Must Be Obeyed and They Who Make Too Many 411 Calls, are occasionally doing this, and it drives me crazy. Especially, when you can dial 1-800-4664-411 from any phone, and have voice activated search for any number anywhere. If you call from your cell, it will even map the location for you. So, don't be lost, and don't get charged for 411 calls again. Call 1-800-GOOG-411.
