Swype Keyboard For Android - A Better Way To Type

Swype keyboard preview for Droid leaked � DroidMuff.in.  If you are brave, you can try out the beta version of the virtual keyboard typing tool, Swype, this weekend. Even though the Droid has a keyboard, I am playing around with virtual typing. Swype allows you to type on a virtual keyboard without lifting your finger at every letter. Just glide from letter to letter, and it allegedly will recognize the characters you stop on. Free to try, and the one thing Windows Mobile had going for it.

Normally, $149, these little guys store over an hour of high quality video, and can now be had for a lot less. I have one in my drawer that I never use anymore, because my new Droid, in addition to replacing my GPS and my still digital camera, is now my principal video camera. In the film camera days, I had a fully functioning Color darkroom, and processed my own E-6 slides, and made great big 16 X 20 Cibachrome prints. I dabbled in black and white as well. However, I now shoot the good stuff with a Canon 40D, which uses all of my old expensive lenses, and weighs, with my lenses, enough that a shooting becomes an expedition. However, point and shoot is now neatly contained in my little Droid, which takes video on 16 GB micro SD cards that can be replaced by taking off the back cover. High quality video in the phone? Check. You can't do that with the iPhone. Remove the back cover and add as much storage as you want? Check. You can't do that with the iPhone. Remover the back cover and add a battery for long video shoots? Check. You can't do that with the iPhone. Pointing out the deficiencies in the iPhone? Priceless.

In each case, I did my best to dry them out, but, alas, they died a terrible death. Now, LifeHacker informs me that I could have dried them in a bowl of rice, which, because of its ability to soak up moisture, can save wet electronics if applied soon enough. Since my accidents, I have been a lot more careful with my smartphones, so I hope I never have to try this one out. However, if it happens to you, keep this one in your pocket just in case.

Official Google Blog: Introducing the Google Chrome OS.  It is truly revolutionary. Google wants to revolutionize the web and how people interact with data. Will Google betray the trust? Will it become evil, even though its motto is "Do No Evil?" It is way too early to tell. However, absolute power corrupts absolutely, and I may draw the line at Google having the OS that runs my machines. On the other hand, I am really enjoying the ease of access to my calendar and email and web sites provided by Google's free solutions. Until they screw up, don't they deserve a "Trust, But Verify" stance? Of course, we could all be getting Stockholm syndrome. If so, do you trust Microsoft or Apple to deprogram you? Didn't think so.

I know, I am beginning to sound like I have drunk the Kool Aid; but, the Google universe is becoming my choice for much of what I do on the net.
