Ride The Lightning: Going to Ditch a Copier? Think Twice. It May Carry Your Data.. One of my best frugal lawyer purchases was my copier. For many years, I thought a successful solo practitioner had to have one of those room sized big copiers that were so expensive you had to lease them. After a few years of car payment sized monthly payments, I got fed up, and got rid of the leased monstrosity. I wasn't aware, however, of the possibilility that the copier held the images in a hard drive, and that, unless wiped, an unscrupulous person could access that data. My new copier was purchased outright for a price equal to only one month lease payment for its predecessor, and has served capably for over 3 years. The major expense is the same, new drums every year or so, and new print cartridges every few months. There are two lessons to be learned here. Don't spend a lot of money on technology that has been replaced by cheaper, new technology. And, never throw away a copier that has a hard drive, without wiping the drive. Be careful out there.
What copier did you purchase after the big lease? We also lease, but I hate having the monthly.

I'm interested to know what copier you replaced your big one with, as well.
